A Daily Deal I Hope You Passed Up

Real LivingSocial Offer from Email Sent on 6/24/11

The explosion of daily deal purveyors continues, with the latest entrant soon to be the behemoth Google.  Groupon and LivingSocial cannot be happy with the onslaught of competition just as the allure of daily deals is clearly beginning to wane for both consumers and retailers.  See Exhibit 1 above–a LivingSocial deal for 50% off concealed handgun certification–for evidence that the business model is beginning to exhaust the low hanging fruit and is having trouble keeping its more mainstream retail clients interested.  Surely, somebody at LivingSocial MUST have considered that this offer could become comedic fodder.  Indeed, it has.  The following excerpt is from their website:

LivingSocial offers daily deals on handpicked experiences that can be shared with friends. Our mission is to add surprise to every calendar. So we dig deep, pursuing both the things that define a place and the undiscovered jewels.

So go ahead and call your friends, round up your co-workers, or plan a church outing to the shooting range.  Nothing builds friendships like unloading a full magazine of ammunition from a semi-automatic pistol.  When the experience is over, you can buy your own handgun and secretly carry it around with you.  What’s not to like?

  1. But just look at her sexy outfit: ear-muffs, goggles and a turquise halter top. I want to be just like her! But I wonder where she plans on concealing that little pistol of hers? The devil is always in the details…

You don’t have to look far for material to write about, do you? It comes right to your screen… Great post!

    • Good humor, Lorna. You are right about finding material for my blog. I keep a list of things I bump into everyday. Others submit ideas also, which I appreciate. Thanks for your continued readership. –Dan
